Piedmont Search and Rescue of Richmond, Virginia is a member group of the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, one of the largest SAR resources in America. Being an important volunteer organization, PSAR needed a vehicle to reach out to the public and a means to share information among its members.
A blog format was chosen to facilitate communication with the public and among PSAR members in a members-only portion of the website. A membership management script was developed to collect volunteer participation in meetings, training events, and missions, as well as the time and travel miles expended during missions and while training.
A dispatch console available in the private members area serves the group important numbers and documents during a mission to find missing persons. Information collected via the membership management script and at the dispatch console is input to a database to satisfy documentation and reporting requirements.
Juniata County had an outdated Web site which didn’t serve the county very well. The County Commissioners realized the need for their site to be updated and expanded.
The new look for the County’s Web site includes a common header and navigation bar on all pages of the site. A news feature of the site is serviceable by county personnel, where an appointed person(s) can enter a title, news story, and contact person’s information. This content then appears on the Web site instantly through the magic of php.
Forms that are often requested at the county offices are now available on the site for easy access. A photo gallery rounds out the Web site with scenes from Juniata County.
Powder Works is a small powder coating business located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. This new business needed a web site to highlight how powder coating works and to show why it’s better than priming and painting on metal.
Constant inquiries about the process of powder coating suggested that a web site could be used to great advantage in educating customers. To meet this need, a question and answer forum was implemented on the site where anyone can ask powder coating questions. Also, an image gallery shows the great finishes that are achievable with powder coating.
A bobbin collector wanted to showcase her antique bobbin collection online. These antique wooden bobbins played an important part in the early textile industry as they were integral to the mechanized production of thread, yarn and cloth. Since her collection had grown so large, Becki also thought it would be great to sell a few of these handcrafted wooden bobbins to other antique collectors. Information about the bobbins and some early textile mills is cataloged in a database that can be easily updated with new information.
